June News
The July Arts Market at Bank Square is almost upon us. I have a new fabric collection on the go. My silk scarfs and printed lengths are nearly done. A bit of a life time achievement really. When I chose my woven textiles at degree level, I knew, that one day any image could be printed onto any surface. Last year I saw an exhibition about craft and technology and felt proud to know that when I did my MA, I was 20 years ahead of technology. Always planned to do it when technology caught up! So my first printed textiles should be ready for collection tomorrow.
I’m getting some major DIY done so that my new collections can really shine for Open studios. Despite the gallery shutting down on my show in January it was fabulous to see it all hung properly and paved the way to me being accepted in the Plymouth Society of Arts. A prestigious group of which it is an honor to be invited to join- I’m thrilled.
So I have a feature exposed floorboard hall, new paint and the gloss work is done too. A Victorian airer is in place above the stripped spindle staircase where my collection will hang. I am working alongside Helen Cobbold fashion designer, It’s So Me! and we will exhibit together for Open Studios.
The arts markets are building in stature and popularity and I hope my new collection will hit the spot. My project harvesting Time is coming together and artists are responding to the brief. I have been helping with running Drawn to the Valley and our 9th Open Studios Directory is almost complete. Just have the website to sort and some issues with my own not functioning properly!
I am starting to plan a Norfolk trip. We have always stayed at Wells-Next-the-Sea. I consider it to be my second home. But I am staying in Cromer (bit dubious about Cromer) but will just use it as a base to explore new territory. Find new inspiration in those big blue skies! That is the end of July and then it will be the August arts market and getting ready for Open Studios!
